In 1986 New
Covenant Fellowship established its foundation in the garage of
one of its founding members in Concord California. Shortly after,
they moved into a small hotel meeting room for their weekly services.
The hotel was torn down for city planning purposes so they moved
again.
The church
was able to afford a small office space and renovate it into a
sanctuary. This was a comfortable place of worship for many years.
Since then Concord has grown rapidly and the office building was
also torn down to make room for city expansion. Due to the demolition
of the office building New Covenant was forced to move again.
They made their new place of worship at Ayers Elementary School
where they met for over a year.
In 1989 New
Covenant joined the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel
and became the Concord Foursquare church. Shortly after they merged
with The Living Way Foursquare Church, which has been a part of
the community since 1959 and was founded by Pastor Smithson. Pastor
Smithson built the facility on the property that still continues
to serve the congregation of The Living Way.
Currently the
church is planning for a brand new sanctuary. This new sanctuary
will give them plenty of space for their young people and children's
ministry. Ground breaking is anticipated in the Spring of 2002.
